American Comics: Multiverse of Madness

501. The One-Way Mirror of Reality!!

501. The One-Way Mirror of Reality!!

Not paying any attention to Alex covering his eyes, the Watcher simply stood there calmly.

"You should know that your palm cannot block my gaze, right?"

"Of course I know. This gesture is just a polite reminder. If you keep staring at me with those creepy eyes, I'll show you an impolite gesture."

Alex lowered his arm and glared at the Watcher disdainfully.

The Watcher shook his head slightly but didn't linger on the joke. He became serious again, walking directly in front of Alex and speaking.

"The Watcher group is very curious about your experience. We all want to know what you went through in the pollution. Perhaps your journey can help us uncover the source of the pollution."

Hearing this, Alex stopped smiling and began to explain seriously.

"As for the source of the pollution, I do have some theories now. In fact, after I entered the Sentry's mental world, I discovered a peculiar universe that was born out of the pollution."

"A universe born out of the pollution?"

The Watcher stiffened, perhaps even he hadn't anticipated that a universe could exist within the pollution, and he definitely didn't expect there to be life inside the pollution.

"Yes, I was also surprised at first."

Alex waved his hand, and magical energy levitated the teacup, pouring tea for both of them.

"After all, according to our initial calculations, pollution brings ultimate madness and death. Every time pollution appears, it destroys one or even multiple parallel universes. It's hard for ordinary people to imagine that a universe could exist within the pollution."

The Watcher fell into deep thought as he listened to Alex's words.

At this moment, Alex's experience completely overturned the Watcher group's previous assumptions about the pollution. They had originally categorized this force as the ideology of higher narrative beings, an unknown energy with a destructive nature.

But now, since a universe and life could be born out of the pollution, their conclusions might have been flawed.

"What did you see in that universe? Does it have anything to do with our reality?"

"It's very relevant, and I can even say that the threat posed by that universe is even more terrifying than you might imagine." Alex didn't leave any suspense and directly shared his experience.

"From what I've experienced, that universe is essentially a breeding ground for the pollution's power. The people living there, once they make certain harmful moves, will give rise to the birth of pollution, which threatens our reality."

The Watcher listened quietly, falling into prolonged silence. He lowered his head, deep in thought, trying to piece together the whole story.

Alex didn't interrupt his thinking. After all, the Watcher had been around for countless years, and their knowledge could be of great help to him.

After about the time it took to drink a cup of tea, just as Alex was refilling his cup for the third time, the Watcher finally broke the silence.

"This situation might be even more dire than we imagined. I've already informed the other Watchers about this matter, and they've responded quickly."

"What did they say?" Alex asked anxiously.

"In the The Boys universe you observed, the proliferation of pollution you saw has already manifested in our reality, but those universes have not yet given birth to pollution, so we didn't pay much attention to it."

The Watcher furrowed his brows, a deep sense of gloom filling his expression.

"We've never understood how the pollution is born, so we've always been in a passive state. Now it seems that the pollution has already spread to most of the multiverse. It just hasn't erupted yet."

"What do you mean?"

Alex frowned and asked, but at that moment, the Watcher covered his head, his body trembling slightly as he mumbled to himself.

"We should have discovered this earlier. We should have noticed this."

Seeing the Watcher in this state, Alex hurriedly got up to support him.

"Calm down, buddy. Are you okay?" While saying this, Alex placed the teacup into the Watcher's hand.

Although the Watcher no longer needed food for basic energy conversion, upon seeing Alex's gesture, he still took the teacup and took a sip.

"I... I'm fine."

Gently patting the Watcher's back, Alex asked seriously, "What did you realize?"

"Nothing, just that I've become aware of some things we've overlooked for a long time. The infiltration of pollution is deeper than we imagined."

After a brief pause, the Watcher held the teacup with both hands, slowly lifted his head, and looked at Alex before speaking.

"Have you ever heard of the Ultimate Universe?"

"The Ultimate Universe?" Alex frowned, wondering why the Watcher would suddenly mention this parallel universe.

The story of the Ultimate Universe had gone through several rounds of transformation, and the stories within it were mostly in disarray. Alex himself wasn't inclined to follow it, but he did have some knowledge of the events that took place there.

The Watcher let out a long sigh and spoke calmly.

"The Ultimate Universe is a very special universe. When it was first born, we didn't pay much attention to it. After all, with so many multiverses, we can't always focus on just one."

"But now that I think about it, many events that happened in the Ultimate Universe seem to correspond to certain key points in your experiences within the The Boys universe."

As the Watcher spoke, images composed of pure energy appeared before Alex, much like a holographic projection.

Looking at the images, Alex's expression grew darker.

Thor, who was betrayed by Loki, died during the war, and then reincarnated; Captain America, who had violent tendencies and a volatile personality; the depressive and tragic Bruce Banner, the Hulk.

One by one, superheroes, who were completely different from Alex's impressions, appeared before him.

Due to alcoholism, domestic violence, and social instability, the Giant Man was expelled from the Avengers. Forced to change his identity and call himself Ant-Man, the Avengers still refused to let him join, so he joined the Defenders instead.

But the Defenders' actions didn't help Ant-Man change public opinion. Instead, while protecting his teammates without wearing his giant-sized suit, his giant naked form was photographed and published in the newspaper, leading to a dramatic fall in his reputation and making him the subject of ridicule.

His ex-wife, the Wasp, wasn't much better off. One grew larger while the other shrank, and their estrangement was complete.

In addition to them, there was the Black Widow, who transformed into a spy and approached Iron Man, Tony Stark, eventually falling in love with him. Later, she shot and killed his butler, Jarvis, and defected.

Her fate ended with death at the hands of Hawkeye. However, that wasn't the end—her intimate video with Tony Stark mysteriously spread, causing Iron Man to fall into despair, spending his days drinking.

There were even events here involving the Scarlet Witch flirting with a robot, which eventually led to a new version of the Ultron era.

Watching these scenes, which defied human moral codes, Alex rubbed his forehead and looked away.

"Alright, please retract the holographic images. I already understand what you're trying to convey."

"I don't know if this corresponds to your experience with the pollution, but what I want to say is that the Ultimate Universe is very strange."

The Watcher spoke seriously. "Although the Ultimate Universe hasn't shown any signs of pollution, I can't guarantee that the 'disease' of the universe won't occur in a future I can't foresee."

Alex understood the stakes. The Ultimate Universe was unlike regular parallel universes. It was like an inverted reflection of the main universe.

What happened inside it went far beyond the images the Watcher had shown, and even the future might hold bizarre scenes where a corrupted and brainwashed version of a key character rewrites the entire universe.

Thinking of this, Alex couldn't help but feel a headache.

He had originally thought that pollution was merely an ideological invasion from the higher narrative beings, but it turned out those forces had expanded to such an absurd level.

"Our previous assumptions were correct. The pollution comes from the higher world above our reality, but the connection between that place and us is even closer than we imagined. Do you remember when you helped me find the way earlier?"

"The multiverse is like a prism. Using different universes as stepping stones, the reflections of the prism shorten the distance between them," the Watcher murmured.

"Yes, exactly. Your words inspired me. Perhaps there's a mirror between us and the higher space, but it's a one-way mirror."

"A one-way mirror?" The Watcher looked at Alex, puzzled.

"Yes, a one-way reflective mirror."

Alex gave a strange smile, looking directly into the Watcher's eyes as he slowly explained.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"There's a one-way mirror standing between the two realities, with the reflective side facing us. It reflects a reality that corresponds to us but is completely opposite. This layer of reflected space is the stepping stone for the pollution.

They merge with the reality behind the mirror, giving birth to new universes. But because it's a one-way mirror, the back of the mirror doesn't reflect. Instead, it directly influences our reality through the mirror."

"So..."

Alex crossed his fingers and spoke softly.

"Imagine, when you look into a mirror, the reflection of yourself is staring back at you. But behind the mirror, there are another pair of identical eyes also watching you. What would that feel like?"

For no reason at all, the Watcher suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. This was a feeling that had rarely appeared in his countless years of existence, and it made him feel extremely uneasy.
