Chapter 65: - Early Birds Catch the Worm

Broken's face lit up with a bright, beaming smile, his eyes twinkling with delight as he returned to Yunatea. The sun was slowly rising on the horizon, its rays painting the sky in vivid oranges and pinks. He watched in awe as the first streaks of dawn shone through, bathing the fields and forests in a warm, golden hue.

He had only been away for a short while, yet it felt as if an age had gone by since his last visit to this fantasy realm. He was overwhelmed with happiness to be back on familiar soil, and it was impossible for him to hide his joy.

"It's so wonderful to spend a lot of time in this game."

A fox with three tails then appeared nearby, running around at his feet and stopping to look up at him. Her ears were lowered, and her tail wagged slowly.

Broken smiled and knelt down. "Hey, Polly," he said softly. "How are you?"

Polly hopped closer to him, her tiny paws brushing against his knees. She let out a small whimper before she spoke in her little girl's voice, "Master..." her voice trailed off, not finishing her sentence.

Broken cupped his hand around the back of her head, gently rubbing the fur between her ears. "Are you hungry?"

The fox's expression softened as she nestled closer to his chest, her tail wagging slowly. Polly seemed to agree with what Broken had inquired, her head bobbing in response.

He then pulled out a monster core from his inventory and handed it carefully to the fox.

"We can get a lot of Monster Cores easily, so don't worry about running out of stock, okay? If you're hungry, just let me know."

"Thanks, Master," she said.

"However, Master..." Polly continued. "Don't you plan on contracting with more spirits? You can do that, right?"

Broken remembered that he had received two High-Grade Spirit Contract Tickets from Goddess Akidia, an extraordinary set of tickets that enabled him to acquire spirits of the same grade as Polly. These tickets could even guarantee a contract if he found suitable spirits. "You're right, Polly. I should start looking for other spirits to contract with."

Broken pondered for a moment, then muttered under his breath. He glanced at Polly and inquired, "Tell me, Polly, how can I find spirits with a Unique grade? Is it hard to find Unique- grade spirits? I still feel lucky to have contracted with you as my first spirit."

Polly paused thoughtfully, considering her response. "You're the best Master... I'm the one who's happy to be your spirit companion," she said slowly.

Broken lifted Polly and continued walking. As they moved, a few players passed by and glanced at him, noticing how he talked to Polly.

"Go hunt a monster, stop talking to your pet fox. Ha ha," one of them said.

"Maybe he thinks this is a Pokémon game?" another added.

They laughed and walked away, leaving Broken fuming. He glared at the three and shouted, "Mind your own business!"

They were startled by Broken's outburst and hurriedly left. "Leave him alone."

After they left, Broken resumed listening to Polly while gently stroking the fur on her head, noticing how much she enjoyed it.

She continued, "Unique-grade spirits are quite rare, Master, and it is indeed difficult to find them. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible. They typically hide in secluded areas, and it's unlikely you'll find more than one Unique-grade spirit in the same place. So, if you're serious about securing a contract with one, you may have to search several different locations."

Broken nodded slowly. "So, getting a Unique-grade spirit like you is not easy."

"I believe you are the luckiest person in this world, Master. You're blessed by the Goddess of Sloth," Polly replied softly.

"Thanks, Polly," Broken said.

Broken realized that he could contract with a lower-grade spirit, but it wasn't a sin to be a bit greedy and aim for the best possible reward. He decided it was better to wait for the right opportunity while focusing on crafting powerful equipment and weapons to sell for a lot of money.

Polly just stared silently at Broken before finally responding. "Master, I am sure there are many spirits who would be willing to form a contract with you. After all, you have been hand- picked by the Goddess of Sloth. It's an honor that few receive."

Broken smiled at her words. "I need to finish some things before we go on our next adventures. I'm sure I need to prepare myself first. And of course, I need to level you up too."

He glanced down at his clothes, which were still the same as when they had started their journey. "I should equip myself with necessary items. That way, I would feel more secure about going out and exploring."

Polly nodded in agreement.

Broken slowly ambled along the road. The once quiet small town was now bustling with activity.

The footpath was lined with a variety of merchants carrying goods in wooden boxes and adventurers with worn leather armor and weapons of various shapes and sizes.

People seemed to have come out of the woodwork, from the townspeople to the adventurers who had just returned from a hunt or a tavern, all of them chatting and laughing as they passed each other on the path.

Broken smiled contentedly as he strolled through the morning atmosphere of Deadbay City, taking in all of its sights and sounds. He was on his way to the bustling plaza, where merchants from all over had gathered to showcase their wares. He wanted to make sure he had all his affairs in order before he arrived.

"Status," he said softly, activating his character screen.

"180 stat points..."

Broken murmured softly as he saw the 18 levels' worth of stat points he could allocate to his basic stats. He smiled with satisfaction at the sight of so many points. He had never postponed spending his stats before, but he had recently received a lot of rewards after earning his blacksmith class and various achievements that granted him many stat points.

He also had the Dexterity stat now, which would greatly enhance his proficiency in crafting blacksmith items.

He then carefully considered how to distribute the stat points, taking into account his current condition and the type of battles he would face in the near future.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

He knew he needed Strength since it was his main source of physical damage. His weapons and skills mostly relied on this stat. At the same time, he needed to balance his Agility, Constitution, and Stamina to support his overall performance, increasing his Health and prolonging his endurance in battles.

Although Intelligence wasn't crucial for a melee fighter who relied on physical damage, it was still necessary to increase it to a certain extent. This would allow him to use his skill rotation more efficiently without weakening his primary stats too much.

But then, Broken wasn't just a pure physical fighter. He had greater potential with his Super Novice class. If he decided to use a bow or dual daggers, he would need a higher Agility stat. And if he opted for magic weapons, he would benefit from a higher Intelligence stat. After pondering for a while, he decided to allocate the points in a way that seemed fair for his current situation.
