Chapter 198: Chapter 198 Manager's Suggestion
"You put all the ten plus million you got from the divorce into the stock market?" Zhao Hai seemed to be asking for confirmation.
"Yes," Liu Yujuan nodded.
"Liu Yujuan, do you think I would believe that?" Zhao Hai suddenly sneered.
"Why wouldn't you believe it?" Liu Yujuan asked subconsciously.
"I know exactly what you're like. If I'm not mistaken, you've probably almost spent all the money you had, and now you're in some trouble and urgently need money and can't borrow any, which is why you called me, right?"
Zhao Hai guessed quite accurately based on his understanding of Liu Yujuan.
If it were anything else, his guess might not have been so precise.
But when it came to money, he trusted his guess completely.
"How did you know..." Liu Yujuan blurted out, then realizing she had misspoken, she immediately stopped talking.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
"Liu Yujuan, you drained over ten million from the divorce so quickly. It really is like you. I might have money, but I'm not lending it to you, and don't call me again in the future."
With that, Zhao Hai hung up the phone.
Liu Yujuan's face looked terrible.
"Juan sister, you didn't get the loan?" one of the sisters asked.
"No, that guy is unwilling to lend!" Liu Yujuan said through gritted teeth.
That Zhao Hai, really doesn't have any concern for our past relationship as husband and wife.
"Juan sister, can you think of anyone else who might lend you the money?" Another sister asked.
"I don't know," Liu Yujuan was truly at a loss for who to turn to for a loan.
"What are we going to do then?"
The sisters looked at each other, all unsure of how to resolve the situation.
They all wanted to leave. If it hadn't been for the enjoyable meal they'd just had, making it feel rude to just walk away, they would definitely have left already.
"Juan sister, your watch is worth four million eight hundred thousand. Why don't you leave your watch here as collateral for now?" One sister suddenly came up with this idea.
"That's workable. After all, you will be able to get money from your son-in-law in a couple of days," another agreed.
"Right, right, it's just temporary collateral, it's no big deal. You come back to pay the bill later and take it back."
"The question is whether the restaurant is willing or not."
"What's there to be unwilling about? This is a four million eight hundred thousand watch; for Juan sister to leave her watch here is an honor for them."
The women chattered away.
Liu Yujuan thought this was a good idea too. After all, she could just leave it here for now, and once she got the money from Xu Yang, she could come back, pay the bill, and take her watch back.
So, she took off her watch and said to the cashier, "Young lady, watch carefully. This is a limited edition Patek Philippe watch that I bought for four million eight hundred thousand. I'm leaving it with you now, and you need to take good care of it. If it gets lost or damaged, I won't let it slide."
"Ma'am, we don't have such a policy here. You should ask your relatives and friends to lend you the money instead," the cashier suggested.
The cashier didn't know if the watch was real or fake, and she wasn't capable of appraising it.
Who knew whether this group was putting on a play in front of her, trying to trap her in their scheme.
If she got tricked, she'd be on the hook for over three hundred thousand.
Then she'd have nowhere to even cry about it.
She was just a clerk; where would she find the money to reimburse it?
And even if the watch was real, she couldn't possibly do such a thing.
Mama mia, she'd never done such a thing before.
"Look here, girl, how can you be so unappreciative? It's an honor for your restaurant that our Juan sister is willing to leave her watch here!"
"Exactly! Would our Yujuan, as the mother-in-law of a billionaire, really stoop to deceiving you all?"
"Young lady, hurry up and write a receipt. When our Yujuan brings the money over, she will get her things back,"
said the sisters, one after another.
"Ladies, I'm sorry, but we don't have such a policy here. I can't do that," the cashier replied.
"You see, this girl doesn't know how to be flexible," a sister frowned and said.
"She's probably not inflexible, she just doesn't dare make decisions. Young lady, call your manager over; they should be able to make a decision," Liu Yujuan's mind was quite sharp, having seemingly detected the heart of the problem.
"Yujuan is indeed impressive, able to spot the problem at just a glance."
"So true, we're certainly not as perceptive as Yujuan."
"Young lady, hurry and call your manager out!"
The women continued chattering and flattering Liu Yujuan.
"Please wait a moment."
The cashier also knew that this matter was beyond her and that she had to report it to the manager.
Thereupon, she called a waiter over to find the manager.
She needed to remain at the cashier as there were other customers besides Liu Yujuan needing to pay.
A few minutes later, a middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes approached.
He was the restaurant's manager.
The cashier briefly explained the situation to him.
The manager nodded slightly to indicate his understanding, gesturing the cashier to carry on with her work, then turned to Liu Yujuan, saying, "Madam, we indeed do not have such a policy here, and we do not appraise watches. Even I cannot agree to your request to use the watch as collateral."
Liu Yujuan furrowed her brows: "Then what should I do? I can't borrow money at the moment, and I don't know when I can get through to my daughter's phone. Are you suggesting I stay here indefinitely?"
The manager smiled and said, "Madam, may I suggest something? There is a pawnshop directly across the street from our restaurant where you can pawn your watch. When you have the money, you can simply redeem it."
"That is indeed an idea," Liu Yujuan nodded in agreement.
After all, pawning it to get the cash to settle the bill, then getting money from Xu Yang in the next couple of days to redeem the watch was the plan.
The manager smiled and offered, "Madam, I can have two of our security guards accompany you there."
Liu Yujuan waved a hand, "No need, I can go by myself."
The manager insisted, "Madam, the valuable items you're carrying are worth a lot. I really think it's better to have our security accompany you."
Upon hearing this, Liu Yujuan finally understood.
The manager was worried she might run off.
On reflection, she realized that if she left and didn't return, it would be difficult for the manager to locate her.
Liu Yujuan could only say, "Fine, let the guards take me there."
She didn't plan on running away. As the future mother-in-law of a billionaire, it wasn't necessary to flee over such a small amount of money.
The manager immediately went to call two security guards, briefed them, and then brought them over, saying, "Madam, these two security guards will take you there. They know the place, and having been discharged from the military, their skills are exceptional. They will absolutely ensure your personal and property safety."
"Alright," Liu Yujuan nodded.
"Yujuan, if you're going to pawn something, then we'll leave first," a sister said.
"Yes, there's no use in us staying here," another added.
"Yujuan, I've got a meeting with a friend, I can't stay for too long," another sister mentioned.
The sisters were all eager to leave, not wanting to stay any longer.
"Fine, you go ahead. We'll get together another time." Liu Yujuan didn't seem to mind and saw no need to wait any longer.
Once the sisters had left, Liu Yujuan and the two security guards went to the Jiangcheng Pawnshop across the street.
