Chapter 1118: Test Subject #9,999
Chapter 1118: Test Subject #9,999
"Continue with your search," Izroth instructed the Lightning Soldier, who quickly departed to carry out his assignment.
He then looked over at Sagarus and said, "Lead the way."
...
A few minutes later, Izroth and Sagarus arrived at their destination inside the secret underwater base.
Compared to the size of the previous rooms Izroth visited, he noticed that this was several times smaller, spanning just five meters in diameter. However, rather than calling it a room, it would be more accurate to describe it as a cage. As for the way in, it was initially blocked by metal bars enchanted with some kind of magic. But, it appeared to have been broken by the Lightning Soldier who found the cage in order to carry out its search orders.
'I see. There is a magic formation in this room that blocks out my Energy Vision Sense. Even the imitation Law of Wind is unable to move freely through this place. This level... Is it an expert-level magic formation?'
Expert-level magic formations were just one step below reaching the pinnacle of magic formations; therefore, they were not easy to come across due to the massive amount of resources necessary to create and manage one. The fact that Polkentin could afford to place such a powerful magic formation in a secret underwater base and maintain it spoke to the amount of resources at the Mad Alchemist's disposal.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
'Even a person at the peak of the legendary realm would find it tiresome to keep the resources on hand that are required to create and maintain a magic formation of this level. That is unless they have a way of keeping a steady stream of resources. How troublesome.'
With so many resources in motion, Izroth knew that it was impossible for Polkentin to keep things under wraps. As a result, Izroth concluded that the Mad Alchemist must have an organization or multiple entities backing their research. After all, if the chimera were perfected, one would have a fearless, loyal, and strong army at their disposal capable of rivaling any kingdom in the Mortal Realm. Having that kind of potential power at one's fingertips was tempting to anyone with enough wealth and resources to flaunt around.
"A cage this large that contains an expert-level magic formation was undoubtedly made to keep someone or something in. Yet, I don't detect the presence of anything here. Did something escape when you made your way in?" Izroth questioned the Lightning Soldier.
The Lightning Soldier shook its head and then looked over at Sagarus.
"He said he saw nothing leave this room, my lord," Sagarus said calmly.
'Leaving a cage like this vacant-can it be that they have yet to capture their target? No, if it is someone or something that requires this level of containment, then...'
"It's probably still here," Izroth commented as he narrowed his eyes.
Woosh!
All of a sudden, Sagarus swung his sword in Izroth's direction at his back! Bang! Nwaarahh!
The cry of a beast echoed throughout the room as Izroth turned to face the direction it came from. At the same time, Sagarus positioned himself slightly in front of Izroth with his sword drawn.
Of course, Sagarus' attack was never aimed at Izroth. Rather, the Storm Commander responded to the surprise attack that targeted him.
'Oh? This creature... I understand now.'
The creature stood in an aggressive posture a few meters away from Izroth and Sagarus. It possessed a scaled body that shimmered with iridescent hues of jade, accompanied by golden outlines that reflected both power and grace. On its head, a single spiraled golden horn glowed softly and emitted a gentle light. A pair of wings adorned with delicate gleaming patterns extended from its back. It had four muscular yet refined legs with clawed hooves. And, attached to its backside was a long curvy tail that completed its majestic appearance. But, more surprisingly than anything, the creature exuded an aura of celestial and ancient magic.
"A unigon. I read that it's supposed to be a rather rare occurrence to see them outside of the Mother of All Forests. The fact that it's here must be related to the Fourth Great Clan and its princess. If it's a beast related to the Fourth Great Clan, then... As I thought, it's already taken." Izroth said as he observed the creature.
Name: Yilsia(Tamed)
Level: ???
Unigons were a species unique to the Mother of All Forests and were a cross between a dragon and a unicorn. More importantly, the trephasia viewed the unigons as sacred creatures. It was considered one's great fortune and honor to tame a unigon. Given their bloodline, unigons were proud creatures. Because of this, it was not easy to gain their approval and tame them. However, despite their proud nature, unigons were highly intelligent peaceful creatures and often kept to themselves.
For Yilsia to attack first was no doubt due to its poor treatment and captivity.
"Mindless beast, you would dare attack my lord in my presence?" Sagarus said coldly as he took a step forward.
"Wait." Izroth stopped Sagarus as he slowly approached Yilsia, being careful not to startle the unigon.
'It's too much of a coincidence for my quest to be related to the Fourth Great Clan and for a tamed unigon to be here. I'm sure of it—this unigon is Test Subject #9,999. If that is the case, I have to let it know that I'm not hostile.'
Izroth took out a Young Wing of the Ambrosia Tree from his inventory and held it outward in the palm of his hand as he carefully approached the unigon.
Under normal circumstances, a Young Wing of the Ambrosia Tree was unpalatable and would cause harmful bodily side effects. However, this was only the case for those like Izroth. For unigons, whose main diet consisted of high-quality herbs and ores, it was no different than a delicious delicacy.
'If it is the tamed beast of the princess of the Fourth Great Clan, it's probably fed ancient and mythical quality ingredients daily. If I try to give it anything less than that, it likely won't accept it. Although I have plenty of young wings, it still feels somewhat wasteful to feed a mythical quality ingredient to someone else's tamed beast. Well, I'm sure the princess of the Fourth Great Clan will have no problem reimbursing me.'
Nwarah...
Yilsia carefully observed Izroth as she took a step back and kept her aggressive posture. However, the moment she picked up the scent of the Young Wing of the Ambrosia Tree filled her nostrils, Yilsia halted her movement. With his non-aggressive approach, offering of what smelled to be high-quality food, and the fact that the Lightning Soldier broke the cage open, Yilsia was smart enough to understand that Izroth was probably not with those who captured
her.
Groooowl...
Yilsia's stomach growled as she let out a light huff before slowly moving closer to Izroth and eating the Young Wing of the Ambrosia Tree in the palm of his hand.
Nwarah!
After Yilsia quickly finished devouring the Young Wing of the Ambrosia Tree, her mood seemed to perk up as she happily licked Izroth on his cheek in a friendly manner.
