Chapter 16 The Teenage Pharmacist
"Pharmacist?" Upon hearing this title, Qiu Tu's eyes blinked, and he looked at the girl.
Perhaps hearing their discussion about her, the girl bared her teeth at Qiu Tu with a fierce expression. However, with her small size and baby teeth, Qiu Tu could only see a cute defiance.
"Xiafang Street, Xiafang Street," Qiu Tu repeated the name twice, suddenly recalling why it sounded so familiar. Wasn't this the task Yan Chen assigned him to handle but he had declined yesterday?
So, this girl was the prisoner he was initially supposed to take away?
Feeling a sense of fate, Qiu Tu casually asked, "By the way, where is she being sent?"
Qiu Tu's question seemed sensitive, making Fang Ming hesitant to answer. In the awkward silence, Fang Ming noticed Qiu Tu's new uniform. He was initially stunned and then pointed at Qiu Tu's uniform, surprised, "You’ve been transferred to the Political Division?"
Qiu Tu nodded lightly.
Fang Ming glanced at Qiu Tu's shoulder insignia, even more surprised, "High-level Agent? And you got promoted?"
Qiu Tu nodded again.Fang Ming opened his mouth, trying to say something but only managed, "Impressive."
Understanding Qiu Tu's new position, Fang Ming directly answered his question, "She will be temporarily held at the Old Lane Street Security Bureau."
The Political Division had the right to supervise all departments, so answering Qiu Tu's inquiry was completely within regulations.
"Old Lane Street?" Qiu Tu muttered, deep in thought.
After a brief conversation, Fang Ming led the girl away, their exchange ending with her shouting, "Are you guys leaving or not? This is so unprofessional! Do criminals have no rights?"
Bidding Fang Ming farewell, Qiu Tu entered the villa, following Jia Shu's instructions, weaving through the corridors until he found a stone staircase. Descending, he reached a large oak door adorned with iron decorations, giving it an ancient and solemn appearance.
Qiu Tu knocked on the door, and Jia Shu's voice quickly responded, "Come in."
Pushing the door open, Qiu Tu found a massive underground chamber. The stone walls were rough, and a large oak workbench, stained with dried blood and knife marks, stood in the center, surrounded by various tools and instruments.
A girl, covered in scars and devoid of life, was bound to the table. Jia Shu, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, stood beside her, scalpel in hand, methodically dissecting her body.
The knife moved along the bones, flipping flesh and exposing organs with a precision that seemed almost reverent, as if performing a silent ritual.
The dim light cast eerie geometric patterns, mingling with the metallic scent of blood and rust in the air.
Even Qiu Tu, who had witnessed significant events in his past life, almost couldn't endure the sight.
After a moment, Jia Shu sighed, "What a pity."
He set the scalpel aside, removed his gloves, and washed his hands in a nearby basin, the water gradually turning red.
He spoke blandly, "This girl's parents were low-level workers in the Municipal Council. She could have had a bright future, gone to school, played with other officials' children, fallen in love, married, had children, and lived a simple but happy life."
"But yesterday's investigation revealed her parents secretly contacted and supported anti-government forces."
"And so, a once beautiful flower withered."
Though Jia Shu's words conveyed regret, his indifferent tone and the brutal manner in which he executed the girl chilled Qiu Tu to the bone.
After the cold introduction, Jia Shu retrieved a familiar cloth bag from a cabinet and tossed it to Qiu Tu, "You saw that pharmacist on your way here, right?"
Qiu Tu nodded, "Yes, I did."
A knowing smile appeared on Jia Shu's lips, "The Director agreed to your plan but made a small adjustment."
"Cataclysm materials are regulated and can't be casually used for your mission. So, the black-market pharmacist is for you."
"She not only knows how to make cataclysm potions but also has black-market connections, making her far more valuable than simple materials. Enough to satisfy the Qin family."
Hearing this, Qiu Tu felt a jolt.
A pharmacist's value indeed surpassed mere materials, but she was not as convenient.
With materials, he could escape if things went wrong.
But carrying a living person, especially a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old girl, would significantly increase the difficulty and risk of escape.
'Did Yan Chen foresee my potential escape and deliberately give me this burden?' Qiu Tu wondered, while still playing along with Jia Shu, "Cataclysm potions? Pharmacist? What is all this?"
Jia Shu adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, nonchalantly saying, "The answers are in the documents within the bag. Read them carefully."
"Oh, and remember to destroy and keep the information confidential after reading."
After issuing his warning, Jia Shu waved Qiu Tu off, "Alright, go read the documents."
"After reading, find Qin Shuman and persuade her to return to the Qin family."
"The Director's patience is limited."
"Yes, sir!" Qiu Tu saluted, then left the underground chamber with the bag.
Unbeknownst to him, Jia Shu's gaze followed him closely, the desire in his eyes nearly overflowing from behind his glasses.

Walking out of the basement, the fresh smell of soil and leaves contrasted sharply with the suffocating scent of blood inside.
Qiu Tu took a deep breath of the cool air, looked up at the gray sky, and stepped into the villa.
Guided by a servant, he sat in a reception room, ready to examine the intelligence on supernatural powers that Jia Shu had provided, which would influence his next steps.
