Chapter Fifty-Two

As the pickup truck returned to the village, Long Xiaoshan got off, and the news spread throughout the little mountain village in an instant.

The current Long Xiaoshan was no ordinary person.

He was running a farm in the village, and many people depended on the farm for work and income.

Once Long Xiaoshan was arrested, the farm naturally had to stop operations.

Many people instantly felt the drop; not only were they missing out on the fifty yuan daily wage, but they also lost access to the plentiful food from the farm, having to eat dry, bland vegetables at home instead.

That's how people are, if they've never had something, it's fine, but once they've had it and then lose it, it feels especially hard to bear.

The village chief had been spreading the word these days that Long Xiaoshan would definitely be sentenced.

Just when everyone was sighing in despair, Long Xiaoshan unexpectedly returned unscathed.

At that moment, a large number of people flocked to Long Xiaoshan's house.

Long Xiaoshan had just started chatting with his parents when people began arriving at the house, soon packing it so full that there was no room to move.

"Little Xiaoshan, are you all right?"

"I heard from the village chief that you were to be sentenced."

"What sentence, can't you say something good about little Xiaoshan?"

"Little Xiaoshan, are you still going to run the farm?"

With numerous voices asking at once, everyone looked at him with anticipation.

Long Xiaoshan knew that what the villagers were truly concerned about was the farm. He smiled and said, "My uncles, aunts, the farm will definitely continue operating, and it will be even better. Everyone can come back to work tomorrow, and starting from tomorrow, the farm will also provide dinner."

The villagers cheered at his words.

They looked at Long Xiaoshan with even more fervent admiration.

Long Xiaoshan wanted exactly this effect. Providing an extra meal meant little to him but had a significant impact on the villagers.

He believed that more and more people in the village would begin to side with him.

Finally, everyone scattered and went their own ways.

He Xiangyue remarked, "You reckless spender."

The daily wage of fifty yuan was already considerable, and now he was providing additional meals, effectively taking on the responsibility for feeding the entire village. In the countryside, to save money, people usually eat just two meals a day; with the quality of meals they were getting, He Xiangyue found it difficult not to have complaints.

Long Xiaoshan smiled and said, "It's not that much money, and now that our family has money, it's good to make everyone happy."

"I fear they might not be grateful. When you were taken away, there were hardly any who truly wished you well. They're all eyeing the money; many of them went to work for Long Fakui the very next day," He Xiangyue said dissatisfied.

"Mom, I understand," Long Xiaoshan replied with a smile; this situation wasn't surprising to him.

However, he didn't need the villagers to be utterly loyal. That wasn't realistic or possible. As long as he made sure everyone had a good life and could earn money, people would naturally side with him. There was no need to overthink the rest.

"Mom, I'm going to check on the farm," Long Xiaoshan said.

"Aren't you going to eat?"

"I ate in the county," said Long Xiaoshan as he walked out the door.

Soon, he arrived at the Xishan farm. Looking at the greenery of the mountains and breathing in the air, Long Xiaoshan felt an especially comforting sensation. He found this pastoral life much more pleasant than city life. Initially forced into the role of a little farmer, he had now come to like it, even to the point of becoming addicted.

"It seems I was born to be a farmer," Long Xiaoshan said, smiling as he bent down.

As he observed the vegetable plots and the fishpond, everything was pretty much the same, except when he got to the pond where the poison had been put in. Long Xiaoshan's face darkened; the pond was emitting a dark aura.

With his Spirit Eye, he could naturally see that where there was once Spiritual Energy in the pond, it had all vanished now.

The fish in the pond were also barely hanging on to life.

It was lucky that he had noticed the pesticide early that day; if it had all been poured in, the entire pond would have undoubtedly been poisoned to death. Nevertheless, there was still a problem now. The condition of this fishpond was clearly not good.

This pond full of fish had cost him a lot of effort. If it were to be wasted just like that, he would suffer a significant loss.

```
"I wonder if the Spiritual Liquid can bring it back to life?"
Long Xiaoshan thought to himself as he looked around and saw that no one was near, he pulled out the Jade Purifying Bottle.
However, when he poured it out, he discovered that all the silver Spiritual Liquid was gone, leaving only a single drop of Golden Spirit Liquid.
This was the very drop that had been produced last time he had revived Chun Tao.
Because the color was different, Long Xiaoshan hadn't had the heart to use it.
After hesitating for a moment, Long Xiaoshan poured the Golden Spirit Liquid into the pond. As soon as it touched the water, it immediately spread out, and through Long Xiaoshan's Spirit Eye, he saw the dark energy dissipate at a rapid pace.
The entire pond burst forth with vitality.
The fish that had been at death's door were suddenly full of life again, thrashing around energetically, and they seemed even stronger than before.
He was utterly shocked—could the Golden Spirit Liquid resurrect the dead? It had even revived fish that were almost certainly dead. It was simply abnormal.
Unfortunately, the Spiritual Liquid couldn't be applied directly to humans; he had tried it before with no effect.
It could only be used on animals and plants.
Watching all the fish in the pond come back to life, Long Xiaoshan was overjoyed. He stayed for a bit, and as it was getting dark, he didn't plan to go back. He decided to cook something at the farm—after all, there was rice and flour stored here.
He was just about to open the door to the simple kitchen.
"Little Xiaoshan," a voice sounded.
Long Xiaoshan looked up and saw a slender figure walking over the ridges.
"Chun Tao, what brings you here?" Long Xiaoshan asked in surprise.
"I heard you were out, so I came to see how you were," Chun Tao said softly.
"Thank you, come in and take a seat," Long Xiaoshan quickly invited Chun Tao inside.
When Chun Tao entered and saw the kitchen, she asked, "Haven't you eaten yet?"
"No, I was just about to start," Long Xiaoshan replied.
"Let me do it for you," Chun Tao said as she rolled up her sleeves.
Long Xiaoshan quickly said, "No need, I can do it myself."
"Little Xiaoshan, don't worry about it. What is a man doing at the stove? I'll take care of it; it will be done quickly," Chun Tao urged, pushing Long Xiaoshan away.
Seeing Chun Tao's insistence, Long Xiaoshan had no choice but to sit aside as Chun Tao adeptly started the fire and began cooking. Watching her work so skilfully and dutifully, Long Xiaoshan felt a mix of admiration and pity. She truly was a remarkable woman. It was just unfortunate that her lot in life wasn't good.
Before long, two dishes, a soup, and a pot of earthen-stove rice were ready, all emitting a delightful fragrance.
Chun Tao carried the dishes out and placed them on the table.
"Little Xiaoshan, eat while it's hot. If it's not good, please don't blame me."
"It's even better than what my mom makes,"
Long Xiaoshan praised after tasting a few bites.
This wasn't just flattery; Chun Tao's cooking was indeed delicious.
Chun Tao smiled shyly, sitting beside him and watching Long Xiaoshan devour the food with an expression of gentle tenderness on her face.
"Chun Tao, you should eat some, too."
"I've already eaten. You go ahead, you eat."
Long Xiaoshan didn't hold back, eventually cleaning out both the dishes, the soup, and the whole pot of rice.
He patted his belly and said, "Really delicious. After having your cooking, it's even better than what they serve in restaurants. Chun Tao, from now on, you should help me with cooking. I'll give you an extra fifty yuan a day."
"There's no need for money. I'm glad to cook for you as long as you like it," Chun Tao quickly shook her head.
"That settles it," Long Xiaoshan waved his hand.
Chun Tao's eyes welled with a hint of moisture. Though a simple village woman, she wasn't completely naive and understood that little Xiaoshan was trying to help her.
